How it all began

Sheri and I started remodeling the house in January of 2006. Sheri found a interior decorator who had her guys come over and give us an estimate on the work they would do. There was the painter, electrician, wallboard guy and the floor guy. It was going to cost around $20,000 to have everything done. We asked the painter if we could take down the wall paper (he was going to charge $900 and that was a conservative estimate). He said he would be OK with that. The places where it was stapled to the wall would be easy but the other areas might not be. Well, after more than 2 weeks of intense wallpaper stripping, we said no way is the painter going to get to paint after we did all the work. And the rest is history.

From that point on Sheri would say "You can do that." And so I did. The first thing after removing the wallpaper (every room had wallpaper) was getting all the popcorn ceiling taken off. We started in the living room, then entry way, hall way, the three bedrooms, the master bedroom, kitchen, and now the guest bathroom. We go to Home Depot a lot, some days 3 or 4 times. They know us by name [We have our own parking spot :-)] and have given us a lot of help on how to do each job. I have learned how to do wiring, put in dry wall and texture the walls and ceiling, plumbing, and how to solder (or "sweat") the copper pipe joints. I even made a kitchen cabinet with a message center and glass door all from scratch. Sheri gets "how to" books on how to do a job and then tells me what to do. She's the brains and I'm the brawn. Sheri does more than just read. She helps with demolition, painting, mudding drywall joints, and the detail work such as caulking the baseboards in prep for painting. We work good together as a team, and the house is starting to look pretty good.
